Over 250 children will be kitted out with outdoor clothing and other essentials thanks to a National Lottery funding award to Tweed Togs. The grant, which has been awarded from the Lottery’s Cost of Living Support Fund, will enable the purchase of active, warm and waterproof clothing for children across the Scottish Borders.
Trustee, Elaine Wise, commented: “As a volunteer-led charity, Tweed Togs receives no public funds and we are entirely reliant on fundraising, donations and grants. In 2024, Tweed Togs provided clothing parcels to 470 children, an increase of 22% from 2023. Our application for Lottery funding was called “Clothes for children to grow and thrive” and we are delighted with the funding award of £33,600. This grant will enable us to sustain the charity by purchasing essential clothing for children aged 2-12years such as weatherproof jackets, hats and gloves, onesies, underwear and puddle suits. We estimate that 250 children will benefit from this grant and some of the clothing will be made available to schools to enable pupils to participate in outdoor learning activities and residentials. We want to ensure that all pupils can take part in these activities without being let down by clothes that don’t keep the weather out".
Following the award of the grant, we were delighted to speak Isla Todd from ITV Borders on how important this grant is to us. Watch the interview at the link below:
